As Courtney lied on the beach with her best friend Bridgette, she felt more of her inner woes blow away in the lukewarm air.
“I heard this quote once. It really reminded me of you.”
I quirked an eyebrow up in curiosity at what she was getting at and said, “Oh really? What was the quote?”
“Working hard for something we don't care about is called stress: Working hard for something we love is called passion.”
With that, Bridgette gives her a very knowing look. Courtney takes it in, smiles sadly, and nods.
“Yeah, that definitely applies to me.”
Bridgette smiles and hugs her troubled friend.
“Courtney, I have seen you in action when it comes to the things you want. So, don’t’ let that… person, scare you with her threats. You can do anything you set your mind to. And the thing is you really don't need me to tell you that, because you already know.”
“You're right. I don't. “
We both chuckle at my not-so-subtle boast.
“My aspirations are not really a straight line anymore, but that makes it all the more fun for me. My new dreams are about liberation. A whole new start. The "new" Courtney.”
“I can't wait.”
“In all seriousness, thank you.”
I take a brief pause and continue.
“Thank you for seeing the better in me when I was at my worst. You always had the biggest heart.”
Bridgette beamed at the appreciation. Bridgette’s aspiration to help others was working right then and there.
“Stop thanking me already Court. It’s no biggie at all.”
Then, our attention was taken by the distant sounds of aircraft engines running.
I looked away back to the sky and saw a seaplane which had an advertisement flag that had a pale pink background and neon orange writing which read: ”LET’S GEOFF IT UP! 1-800-GEOFFIT International Event Planning."
We both squinted our eyes to see Geoff was enthusiastically waving his hat in hopes that get our attention.
“Woohoo! That’s my Geoffy-poo!” Bridgette shouts as she hops up and down while waving.
I giggled at the goofy nickname and relished in her excitement. It was a great feeling to spend time with her Killer Bass mates again.
The future’s only going to get brighter.
