The two teams are divided up with the guys on one team and the girls on the other, and a conflict between two of the girls forces another to choose sides. In order to win an amazing reward, the campers must eat a variety of disgusting foods. In the end, it was one side's eating habits and the other's bottomless pit that decided who won.
Plot[]
The episode begins as the remaining ten campers enter the main lodge, expecting breakfast. Instead, they find Chris and Chef giggling near the entrance. When Trent asks why there is no food, Chris assures him that there will be plenty later, and they both laugh again. Once all the campers are gathered, Chris congratulates them on making it to the halfway point of the competition and informs them that they will all have a say in the outcome of Total Drama Island. He also says that since the Screaming Gophers and Killer Bass teams will be merged next week, the girls will be assigned to the Gophers' cabin while the boys will be assigned to the Bass' cabin, making the day's challenge a classic "battle of the sexes." They will meet back at the main lodge for a "bite to eat" until everyone is settled in. As an added bonus, since the challenge is for a reward, no one will be eliminated.
Heather tries to sweet talk Bridgette about her natural-looking hair on the way back to the cabins, hoping to forge an alliance with her. Gwen intervenes and reminds Bridgette that Heather is a troublemaker. As Bridgette packs her things, she runs into Geoff, and they talk about what a great time they had being on the same team. They are about to kiss when Chris arrives and drags Bridgette to the other cabin so they can start the challenge soon. Shortly after, Geoff is accidentally hit in the head by Trent's guitar as he arrives at the cabin. Bridgette looks back at her former cabin as she walks towards the former Screaming Gophers' cabin with a worried expression on her face.
Bridgette |
“ | I was a bit worried about being the only new girl on the team, but I figured it can't be that bad! I don't buy that hype about how well guys get along and how catty girls can be. | ” |
As Bridgette is about to enter the cabin, she sees Heather and Leshawna arguing, proving Bridgette's words wrong. When Leshawna demands to know who ate her pudding, Heather dismissively tells her that she did it carelessly, which enrages Leshawna even more. Heather retaliates by saying that she despises Leshawna's habit of leaving everything, including pudding, lying around, pointing to a big bra dangling from a bunk that bothers her. When Heather sees Bridgette standing at the door, saying "Oh-oh" with a blank face, she immediately acts nice and invites her in. She easily shows Bridgette around, but stops short of letting her meet Leshawna and Gwen. Heather gives Bridgette Lindsay's bunk and offers to touch up her own makeup, prompting Leshawna to remind Bridgette that nothing in life comes for free. Despite the fact that the group is obviously dysfunctional, Lindsay notes that it must be a lot better than the guys' cabin.
Lindsay is proven wrong in the former Bass' cabin, where Owen and Trent effortlessly blend in with DJ, Duncan, and Geoff, with soda and music all around. Owen burps, followed by Geoff's earth-shattering burp, which blows everyone's hair back, shakes the fur off a pair of squirrels, and blows the cabin door off its hinges. Trent declares Geoff captain after a shocked silence, and he is lifted onto a stump to make a speech—a declaration that the girls are going down.
Back in the girls' cabin, tensions rise as Heather tries to attract Bridgette by letting her borrow her makeup, even though Bridgette doesn't wear it, thus alienating everyone else, including Lindsay, who is too naive to notice Heather's cruelty. The conflict between Heather and Leshawna continues because Leshawna, like Gwen, knows that Heather is up to no good. Heather goes to extremes and tapes a line down the middle of the cabin, separating herself and Lindsay from Leshawna and Gwen, leaving Bridgette to choose a side.

Despite Bridgette's desire to avoid building walls between the girls, she ends up preferring Leshawna and Gwen's side because she is better friends with them. Heather is visibly upset and acts aggressively towards Bridgette for the rest of the day.
When the newly formed teams return to the main lodge, they ask again about breakfast. Chris announces that the next challenge is "The Brunch of Disgustingness," which consists of a nine-course meal of disgusting foods served to the two teams. For each course, all members of a team must eat the disgusting food to win the round. The team that finishes first receives one point. The team with the most points at the end of nine rounds wins. The reward for winning is a two-day stay at a nearby five-star resort where they are pampered, fed gourmet meals, and given antibiotics for any illnesses they may have contracted during their time on the show.
Bridgette |
“ | I just hope we win to ease some of the tension. I mean, I'll try anything once, except meat. I can't eat meat. | ” |
Back in the dining hall, there is the usual taunting, with Leshawna telling the boys that they will inevitably lose and Owen declaring that he will eat his underwear if he has to, then asking if he will have to. The first plate is brought out, and Owen dives into what appear to be meatballs. Chris tells him that they are meatballs, but that they are more accurately bovine testicles (censored as "meatballs" in the Cartoon Network version), causing the guys to lose their nerve.
Heather |
“ | Judging by the way the guys were reacting to the — uh… — dish… I knew we could win the round. | ” |
Even some of the girls are nervous, but Lindsay continues her search for a pedicure, while Heather and Leshawna dig in and taunt the boys. Bridgette, on the other hand, is a vegetarian and refuses to eat the dish. Heather accuses her of throwing the round on purpose to spite her.
|
|
Bridgette finally eats after Geoff takes pity on her and gives her some reassuring advice, giving the girls a 1-0 lead, which Duncan notices and frowns at. The guys are furious that Geoff just gave the girls the win, and Chris has to intervene to remind them that the next dish is on the way. To Bridgette's surprise, the guys forgive Geoff and plan to work together in the future as a gesture of unity.
Bridgette |
“ | I can't believe how quickly the guys made up! Even I like to hold a grudge for a good six minutes. | ” |
The next course is a pizza with live grasshoppers in a spicy jellyfish sauce and live anchovies, prepared by Chef. The girls refuse to eat the pizza, but Owen quickly devours his first slice. Heather refuses to eat the dish, prompting Gwen to angrily yell at her that she is digesting a bull's most precious "cojones" and that Heather will eat. Heather asks if she can have some parmesan on the pizza, to which Chef shakes his head.
Bridgette |
“ | Okay, sure, I've eaten tuna salad sandwiches, but I never worked out my position on eating live fish, but I had to get in good with the group! | ” |
Lindsay is about to give up on this part of the challenge when Bridgette teaches her a meditation technique that helps her forget about the pizza. Trent refuses to eat it, even though most of the guys do.
Trent |
“ | When I was a kid, my parents used to hold me down and force-feed me broccoli. They only did it because broccoli's — (gags) — good for you! It wasn't that bad. I was playing it up for the cameras. You know, to boost ratings. I don't really mind beef testicles, or live grasshopper pizza with jellyf— Ooh… [vomits loudly] |
” |

As a result, the other guys push him down and stuff a slice of pizza in his mouth. The guys tie the score 1-1 because Leshawna is unable to eat her slice.
Chef |
“ | I was excited about the next dish. I made it from scratch. | ” |
Then Chef brings out the third course, spaghetti, which is actually earthworms covered in snail slime sauce and hairballs. Geoff collapses and runs away, but DJ tackles him to the ground and brings him back in. The guys try to eat their lunch by covering their eyes and breathing through their noses. Lindsay tries Bridgette's deep meditation to forget how disgusting the food is when she eats the worms, but the worms are too much for her, and she gags and loses track of where she was. The guys win two in a row and lead 2-1.
Bridgette tries to get the girls excited about the next meal, and Gwen and Heather join in, but Leshawna is already feeling sick. Chef claims to be excited about the next meal because he made it from scratch. Chris introduces the next meal: French bunion soup with hangnail crackers.
Geoff |
“ | I think they just used stuff from Chef's bathroom floor. | ” |
The guys can't handle the soup, so Bridgette has the brilliant idea of pouring it straight down their throats, bypassing their tongues and taste buds entirely; she tries it on Lindsay and it works perfectly. The girls tie the game at 2-2.
Bridgette |
“ | I think the girls really made a breakthrough as a team! | ” |
The show continues with the last five dishes: Chef's pre-chewed gum; "shaken and not stirred" skunk juice; a sandal painted with a happy face; and soup made from banana peels, fish heads, and soda cans. Despite this, the score remains 2-2, meaning that none of the previous four rounds have been won. The teams are now at the final meal: dolphin wieners — hot dogs made from dolphins. Bridgette, a surfer and vegetarian, refuses to eat the hot dogs because dolphins are her friends. DJ takes Bridgette's side and also refuses to eat dolphin.
Chef |
“ | I slave over a hot stove cooking dolphin. No appreciation! | ” |
Chris sees the stalemate and calls it off, sending the match to an eat-off. Leshawna and Owen face off. The tiebreaker is shots of freshly mixed cockroaches, an unexpectedly satisfying combination of eight cockroaches rich in vitamins for a balanced life. The cockroaches are mixed on the spot and the chunky mixture is poured into fifteen shot glasses. The team that drinks the most shots wins. Leshawna and Owen begin drinking one at a time; after six shots each, it appears that both have reached their limit, but Owen's obscene eating habits kick in, and he downs the remaining three reached in rapid succession, defeating Leshawna 9-6, and then passes out.
The guys win 3-2, and Heather angrily confronts Leshawna and chastises her for losing. During the last challenge, Leshawna gets sick, resulting in a chain of vomit on the table, complete with an undigested cockroach. The guys start vomiting, first DJ and then Trent; Chef and Chris manage to hold it together, but Duncan and Geoff vomit right in front of the camera.
Later, at the Dock of Shame, the guys leave for their luxurious weekend retreat while the girls remain divided with Leshawna and Gwen locking out Lindsay and Heather. Bridgette and Geoff are left to lament the day that tore them apart.

Trivia[]
General[]
- The only contestants to switch cabins were:
- This episode reveals for the first time that Bridgette is a vegetarian. However, prior to this episode, she was occasionally seen eating meat.
- Gwen is the only contestant to not be seen eating any of the disgusting food.
- This episode introduces two new team icons: a blue male icon and a pink female icon.
- However, these are not shown during confessionals.
- This is the first time that Chris signs off the show at the end of the episode, which would become the standard trend in future episodes.
- Geoff's explanation that bulls are castrated for medicinal purposes is accurate as the procedure reduces the male hormones produced within the bulls, making them docile to both handlers and other farm animals, improving the meat's quality, and decreasing the risk of testicular diseases.
- In certain parts of the world, beef testicles are known as Rocky Mountain oysters and prairie oysters.
Continuity[]
- This is one of only three non-elimination episodes of Total Drama Island. The others are "Not So Happy Campers—Part 1" and "Camp Castaways." The latter, however, featured the elimination of Mr. Coconut.
- This is also the first reward episode of the entire series.
- This is the first of several food challenges in the series, starting the trend of each season having one. This is also the second episode in which the challenge involves food and drink.
- "If You Can't Take the Heat..." (earlier in this season) and "Trial by Tri-Armed Triathlon" (later in this season)
- "The Chefshank Redemption" in Total Drama Action.
- "Chinese Fake-Out" in Total Drama World Tour.
- "Eat, Puke and Be Wary" in Total Drama: Revenge of the Island.
- "Food Fright" and "Sundae Muddy Sundae" in Total Drama All-Stars.
- "Hurl and Go Seek" in Total Drama: Pahkitew Island.
- "The Wheel of Vomit" in Total Drama Island (2023).
- "Fun Fight at the O'Cake Corral" in Total Drama Island (2024).
- This episode continues the running gag of Trent getting hurt. In this case, he suffers a lot of vomiting from eating the disgusting meals, more so than the vomiting of others.
References[]
- This is one of two episodes from the series to be referenced on the game show Jeopardy, along with "Dodgebrawl."
- The first dish of the competition, the beef testicles, is a reference to the buffalo testicles from an episode of Fear Factor's unpleasant eating challenges.
Goofs[]
- In the recap, the scene where Heather's top is torn off, Harold crashes into the rock, and Heather covers her breasts, the camera angle has been reversed to how it appeared in the episode.
- Chris congratulates the campers for making it to the halfway point, but since there were twenty-two contestants at the start, the halfway point would have technically been the previous episode.
- When the campers enter the main lodge, Duncan and DJ are never seen entering, but in the next shot they are both sitting at the table with Bridgette and Geoff.
- Chris said that the campers present would be the "jury" in the final episode, much like the show's real-life counterpart Survivor, but that does not happen in the finale. Every camper returns as the peanut gallery, but no one gets to judge anything. However, all of the campers, except for those who are still in the competition later, are influential in deciding who they want to win, as shown in the finales of the second and third seasons.
- When Chris tells the campers about the merger, Owen (who was sitting next to Trent earlier) seems to disappear, but is later seen walking out of the lodge with everyone else.
- When Bridgette leaves the Bass cabin, she carries her surfboard with her while talking to Geoff. When she enters the Gophers cabin, it is gone.
- When Geoff wins the burping contest and gives his speech, he thanks his "big" brother for helping him "pull back and let it rip," but on "Total Drama Island: Totally Interactive!" it says that Geoff is the oldest of five brothers.
- After Geoff burps, all the other guys' hair (or in DJ's case, his bandana) is blown back. However, after he is placed on the stump to make his speech, their hair is back to normal.
- When Heather screams about the grasshopper on her finger, she has Lindsay's scream, not her own.
- As Heather nervously holds her slice of pizza as she takes a bite, the grasshopper is seen repeatedly scurrying around in the air.
- When Geoff slaps Owen's hand away from taking a second slice of pizza, he has his bracelet on. However, when everyone is in the shot, the bracelet is on his other wrist.
- Trent's bio says his dad is an accountant, but when he is being held, he says his dad is a lawyer. Although, he may have said that to scare DJ and Geoff into letting him go.
- When Lindsay finishes her hangnail soup, Chris immediately declares the girls the winner of this round. However, none of the other girls have finished their soup.
- After Bridgette crosses the line to Gwen and Leshawna's side, when the girls walk away, the lines on Lindsay's skirt are vertical instead of horizontal.
- Owen eats all the bovine testicles right away, but later it is shown that he eats more.
- Geoff wasn't shown walking down the docks at the end of the episode.
- This episode is titled "Brunch of Disgustingness," but on Cartoon Network the episode was titled "Brunch of Disgust" when it aired.
- When Duncan and Geoff argue after the girls win the first round, Duncan's "Are you kidding me?" line appears to be in Trent's voice.
- When Chef gives Gwen a ball of pre-chewed gum, Gwen has three hands.
- Only the first four and last challenges are scored instead of all of them. Chris announces it's a tied game (2-2) at the end of the fourth challenge. At the end of the montage, Chris declares once again that it's "still a tied game." However, the final winning score shown is still 2-3, when it should have been 4-5.
- In the Netflix version, this episode is misspelled as "Bunch of Disgustiness."
