Total Drama Wiki

The two teams participate in a talent show, and the rivalry between two campers is exacerbated after a shocking event. One team puts on two strong acts, while the other team has two disasters. All seems lost until one camper unexpectedly gives a great performance, giving their team the win. To save herself from inevitably being voted off, a manipulative camper tricks some of her other teammates into voting off one of the hottest campers.

Cody attempts to impress Gwen by trying to imitate Trent, but he fails miserably.

The episode opens in the Gopher girls' cabin with Lindsay complaining that she has run out of fake skin tanner. Gwen, who has just woken up, lets her know her disinterest, but Lindsay is completely oblivious to her sarcasm. Chris, through the speakers, instructs the campers to meet at the stage for the next challenge. While the campers head to the bleachers, Trent saves a seat for Gwen, and Lindsay blows a kiss to Tyler, both of which is seen by Heather who gives them dirty looks. Chris tells the campers that the day's challenge is a camp classic talent show, where both teams have eight hours to pick their three most talented teammates, who will represent them in the show.

In the Screaming Gophers, Heather declares herself team captain, which Gwen disapproves of, causing an argument to break out between the two. Trent unintentionally interrupts the fight with an extra muffin for Gwen, and Heather seizes the opportunity to legitimize her leadership by asking Trent if he approves of her being team captain, which he agrees to. Satisfied, Heather also declares Lindsay and Beth as judges. In the Killer Bass, the first ones to audition are Katie and Sadie. Courtney, who assumed the position of team captain, as well as the rest of the team, are unimpressed with their dance routine. For his audition, Owen drinks a liter of soda and burps the entire alphabet, being commended by the guys but disgusting the girls, with the act criticized particularly by Heather. Owen also proclaims he can fart Beethoven's Fifth, which is once again rejected by the girls. During the commotion, Gwen leaves. Tyler attempts yo-yo tricks for his audition, which starts off well but quickly devolves into him getting tangled up in the string. Heather performs ballet and, at her prompt, is voted in by Lindsay and Beth.

Katie and Sadie dance for their talent show audition.

Heather gives everyone a break; then, she pulls Lindsay aside, asking her to keep a secret, so Lindsay talks about the time when she had to rescue her sister, Paula, because she got diarrhea on a date, unknowingly exposing an embarrassing secret. Heather ignores her and gives her a walkie-talkie, instructing her to follow Gwen. Lindsay starts to spy on her with a pair of binoculars, but quickly becomes bored with her task, and eventually notices Tyler still tied up in his yo-yo string, becomes much happier and shifts her focus to him. DJ's ribbon dance performance is chosen for the show, while Bridgette's audition of being able to do a handstand for twenty minutes is rejected. Harold tries to audition next but is shot down before he can take a breath. Geoff, with his skateboard tricks, is the second person chosen for the Bass. Off-screen, Courtney is the final person chosen for her violin playing. Meanwhile, Lindsay and Tyler are making out in the bathroom.

Lindsay and Tyler sneak off to the communal bathroom and start making out.

While Courtney is practicing on the talent show's stage, Bridgette bets Harold, Geoff, and a few other guys on her team that she really can stand on her hands for twenty minutes. While succeeding for a short period of time, her leg becomes tangled in a spotlight cord, causing it to fall down, crush Courtney's violin and hurt her head. Unable to perform, a nervous Bridgette now has to take Courtney's place.

With the Gophers, Izzy does her Dance of the Rattlesnake, captivating Owen and Trent. Beth twirls fire batons, but after throwing them in the air, she is unable to catch them, burning a hole in the ground and setting a bush on fire. In a dramatic show, Justin comes out and extinguishes the fire, leaving the girls awestruck by his beauty. He, along with Heather and Trent (who auditioned off-screen) are chosen for the talent show. Gwen is alone writing in her journal when Cody comes over trying to talk to her. Gwen is annoyed, and, when he tries to make further small talk and sniff her hair, she leaves to go back to the cabins and go swimming. Trent offers to tag along, much to Gwen's pleasure. With Gwen gone, Heather orders Lindsay to guard the door to the cabin while she tries to find Gwen's diary. At the docks with Trent, Gwen confesses that everyone drives her crazy, except for him. The tender moment is ruined when Cody and Owen jump into the water, getting Gwen wet and causing her to storm off, which in turn angers Trent. Heather successfully manages to steal Gwen's diary. Before the show, Bridgette is eating chips and talking with Courtney when Heather approaches them, accusing Bridgette of sabotaging her teammates. Bridgette denies the accusation, sticking up for her team, and, when Heather further insults her, throws her bag of chips in her face.

What a bunch of losers. It's so easy, it's almost not fun… Almost.

The talent show starts, and Chris explains that after each performance, Chef Hatchet will judge the performance on the "Chef-O-Meter," a scale of zero to nine.

  • Justin, going first for the Gophers, does a dance and ends with a torrent of water splashing over him. Chef rates the performance a six.

There are two syllables for hot: Jus and tin. Man, that guy is just so hot I could kiss him! Because he's a good teammate! Oh! Why'd I say that?
  • DJ does his ribbon dance, but gets tangled and crashes, only earning two points.

Trent plays his love song which scores the Gophers loads of points, thus giving them a huge lead.

  • Trent plays his guitar and sings a song about Gwen, receiving an eight (five in the HD remastered version).
  • Bridgette goes next, but begins throwing up due to a possible head rush and the chips she ate earlier, puking all over the stage and onto Owen, Izzy, Leshawna, Katie, and Sadie. The former then slips and falls on Tyler's lap, causing a jealous Lindsay to pitch a fit. Chris then orders an unscheduled commercial break to clean up the mess. After the break, Bridgette earns a two for her "performance."

[crying] Going home won't be so bad… I— I can always work at the surf shack.

Heather reads Gwen's diary aloud to the entire viewing audience, igniting one of the show's most heated rivalries.

  • Heather announces a change in her performance, instead, deciding to read a page out of Gwen's diary about Trent. Completely humiliated, Gwen runs off, while Bridgette and Courtney are appalled at Heather's act which is not given a rating by Chef.
  • Geoff is set to go on next, but accidentally breaks his skateboard into two. With Katie and Sadie covered in vomit and Tyler and Duncan not having any outstanding talent, Bridgette and Courtney reluctantly pick Harold as a replacement, who surprises everyone with an incredible beat-boxing performance, giving him a perfect score from Chef and winning the challenge for the Bass again.

People thought I was mean to Gwen. Whatever. All I needed was 4 votes against Justin. Lindsay and Beth were easy. Izzy's just crazy. And Owen? Piece of cake.

[laughing, holding a piece of cake] Piece of cake!

When Heather gets the last marshmallow, Justin's time on the island is done.

At the campfire ceremony, Heather receives the last marshmallow, eliminating Justin, much to Chris' surprise and to the irritation of the rest of the team who believed Heather should have gone home as Justin sadly walks away with Heather bidding farewell to him.

If that evil little cow thinks she is getting away with this, she has another thing coming.

Later that night, Gwen enacts her revenge by dumping Harold's red ant farm in her bed, causing her to run out of the cabin covered in his ants and screaming in horror. As her screams echoes through the camp, a satisfied Gwen smiles and happily snuggles into her pillow.

  • The campers who are not seen auditioning for the talent show are Gwen, Duncan, Leshawna, Trent, Courtney, Cody, Justin, and Lindsay.
    • However, Trent and Justin still compete in the talent show.
  • The first couple of the series blossoms in this episode.
  • The campers that competed in the talent show are (in order): Justin, DJ, Trent, Bridgette, Heather, and Harold.
    • The order in which the Screaming Gophers happen to perform is in elimination order. In contrast, the Killer Bass perform in the opposite order, as Harold is eliminated first, then Bridgette, and finally DJ.
    • Interestingly enough, this order is repeated again by Total Drama World Tour's Team Victory
  • Beth does the same baton stunt in the opening sequence of Total Drama Island.

  • This episode marks the first time that one of the campers wore an outfit besides either their regular outfit, their swimsuit or their sleepwear. In this case, DJ wearing his white one-piece outfit for his ribbon-twirling act and Heather wore a ballet dancer's outfit.
  • This is the second consecutive time that Harold surprises everyone and single-handedly wins the challenge for the Killer Bass, the first time being in the previous episode.
  • This is one of only three episodes in the series where the eliminated camper does not speak at all. The others are:

  • The episode's title is a parody of the 2000 comedy-drama film, Almost Famous.
  • Izzy's snake dance is a reference to the 1994 American-crime film, Pulp Fiction.
  • The final part of Justin's performance is a reference to the dance scene in Flashdance.
  • Gwen's voice actress, Megan Fahlenbock, also plays Jen Masterson in 6teen, who also had her diary read out loud in one episode.

  • When Chris is introducing the show, he says that the population of "Loserville" is four, when it is three. He could've meant that it would soon become four.
  • When the camera zooms out when Chris describes the outdoor theatre, Heather's hair is not in a ponytail. However, it appears in a ponytail before and after this shot.
  • When Owen gets ready to burp the alphabet, the bottle is nearly empty, and water was quickly going downwards, but when Trent and Gwen are talking, he is still heard in the background drinking.
  • When Tyler gets tangled in his yo-yo string, the logo on his tracksuit is missing.
  • When Leshawna gives Justin a water bottle, her nose is right under her right eye, not in the middle of her face.
  • When Geoff asks Bridgette if she can stand on her hands for twenty minutes, his hat is larger than usual.
  • When Heather enters the cabin to steal Gwen's diary, she enters the side of the boys instead of the girls'.

The scene where part of Katie's hair is missing.

  • When Chris was getting ready to start the talent show, the hair under Katie's ear is missing again.
  • Harold is missing when Bridgette vomits on the audience.
  • Chef didn't give a rating for Heather's "performance."
  • When Bridgette and Courtney are debating who to send onto the stage next, Bridgette's hoodie pocket briefly disappears.
  • By the end of the Talent Show, the Gophers had an overall score of fourteen (Justin's six points and Trent's eight), and the Bass had only thirteen (DJ and Bridgette's two points and Harold's nine). Despite this, Chris still declared the Bass to be the winners.
    • This is fixed in the Netflix version of the episode, where Trent only got 5 points instead of 8.
      • This edit, however, makes Chris's remark about the Screaming Gophers "holding the lead with Trent's love song" after Bridgette's performance incorrect as Justin scores one point higher than Trent.
  • When Heather insults the campers in the confessional, she appears in her normal hair, but throughout the episode, she is in her long ponytail.
  • Heather claims she needed four votes plus herself to eliminate Justin; however, she would need six as there are ten campers on her team.
    • This could also mean that the only way for Heather to direct the majority of the votes against Justin, there would need to be a split between the other five remaining votes.
