Overview[]

Ryanie

The relationship between the Daters is rather turbulent, to say the least.

Ryan and Stephanie met at the gym two months before competing on the Ridonculous Race, where they are known as the “Daters”. Initially, they portray themselves as an adoring and tender couple, frequently showcasing their affection for each other through whimsical situations that they perceive as "romantic". As a running gag during the first half of the show, they are often seen making-out, even at inappropriate times. However, their relationship takes a turn for the worse as Stephanie’s competitive nature begins to show due to their low rankings. Her aggressive behavior leads to constant arguments between them during the race. The couple officially breaks up in Hawaiian Honeyruin after coming in last place again, due to their inability to work together. Now known as "the Haters", the two continue to argue but agree to work together to claim the prize money. However, it is clear that the two still have feelings for one another, primarily shown when Stephanie becomes jealous of Ryan's friendship with Carrie. By Darjeel With It, Stephanie has acknowledged her shortcomings and offered a sincere apology to Ryan. Despite being eliminated from the Race, the two have rekindled their relationship and are now a couple once more.

He protests against this idea, but she furiously yells at him, with him complying this time. Stephanie admits that Ryan was becoming concerned about how competitive she’s become. Snake attacks ryan

Stephanie taunts Ryan for not having been able to slow her down with his “lame cooking”. Stephanie angrily yells at Ryan for intentionally hitting every bump. In an interview, Ryan admits he’d purposefully chosen this path because it was just like his relationship with Stephanie: cracked, twisted, and falling apart. The Daters argue about which path to take, with Ryan concluding he’d do the opposite of what Stephanie says, as he now believes that she’s always wrong. He picks her up and brings her along the path on the right after having had enough of arguing with her. The Daters managed to place first for once this episode. They both express great joy about this.

I Love Ridonc & Roll[]

Take that steph

Stephanie shoves Ryan into the water.

As Ryan and Stephanie grab the Travel Tip, she snatches it from Ryan’s hands. Stephanie admits that she and Ryan were staying together for the sake of winning the prize money. Ryan says that he heard that the production crew was changing their team’s name from the Daters to the Haters. And she points out that since their hatred for one another had won them the previous round, they’d hate each other even more now. As Ryan and Stephanie sit in the hot sauna for the challenge, Ryan suggests traveling as fast as possible once they got out. Stephanie sarcastically compliments his “plan”, and calls him Bicep Brain in response. As Ryan is hesitant to start progressing around the freezing water, Stephanie is quick to push him in while telling him to go for it.

Ryan mad jumps

Ryan angrily jumps after having enough of being told what to do.

Ryan yells at Stephanie that she’s pure evil, right before pulling her into the water as well. This surprisingly turns out well for the Haters, allowing them to finish.

My Way or Zimbabwe[]

Junior says bye

Ryan and Stephanie bicker a ton due to their different strategies.

The Haters argue all throughout this episode. As Ryan and Stephanie try flagging down a taxi, Ryan angrily yells at Stephanie that he could do it without her. The Haters confess that they now fail to agree on anything, besides this fact. After being taunted by the Police Cadets, Stephanie once again loses her temper, lashing out at Ryan for not passing them. They start getting into a more heated argument, with Ryan calling Stephanie a wackjob after she calls him a coward. Stephanie makes fun of Ryan’s driving skills after this whole ordeal. Ryan is angered at Stephanie, as her shortcut nearly killed them. Stephanie yells at Ryan to get in the boat as he’s slacking off instead. He simply tells her to let him finish his apple. She furiously hits him with the oar, and he lands in the water. Ryan and Stephanie argue, even when Junior runs into them, with him not taking any side. They continue arguing even when he tries talking to them or thanking them for letting him travel with them. The Haters embrace each other after placing third and come close to kissing again, but quickly go back to their new norm of petty discourse between them. Stephanie admits she’d forgotten how much she hates Ryan in that moment, and since the hating was working well for them so far, they’d continue like this for the rest of the race.

Down and Outback[]

Ryan and Stephanie angry

Stephanie does not want to talk to Ryan.

Stephanie isn’t impressed when Ryan catches a bunny. In response to seeing Devin in denial about his breakup with Shelley, the Haters respond saying that people should simply forget it and move on. Despite still hating each other, Ryan calls Stephanie cuter than the baby bunnies, and she’s flattered by this. This may hint that their hatred for one another is no more than a facade at this point. However, Stephanie still angrily tells Ryan not to talk to her as their team glides to the Chill Zone.

Maori or Less[]

Queen stephanie

"WEAK!"

- Stephanie

Ryan laughs when Josee insults Stephanie. She is angry at him for not supporting her. Stephanie isn’t surprised to see that Ryan didn’t catch any fish, except the Cadets butt in. Stephanie insults Ryan, saying he could learn a lot from the Cadets team, and she quickly calls him weak. Ryan quickly gets his revenge on Stephanie, doing exactly what she’d done to him. As she plunges, she vocally expresses her hatred for him. The Haters argue after Kitty asks what’s taking them so long: wasting even more time. Stephanie laughs when seeing that Ryan caught an electric eel, before he passes it to her.

Little Bull on the Prairie[]

After seeing Stephanie find it unfair how the Surfers had a “dude advantage” since they were going to a dude ranch for the challenge, Ryan teases her about the idea of the next challenge being something she’s good at, like complaining. She proves Ryan’s point correct when she criticizes him for never listening and for having an ugly shirt. Ryan calls Stephanie a chicken when she refuses to eat the beans. Stephanie yells at Ryan to eat faster. He reminds her that it’s an All-In, meaning she needs to start eating too. Stephanie keeps throwing her spoon at Ryan every time she fails to eat the beans. Because of this, the Haters struggle to finish. Ryan motivates her to eat the beans, calling her the strongest and scariest person he knows. Then Ryan gives her the confidence to succeed after calling her the one thing she can’t stand being called: a loser. The Haters fight over who should grab the Travel Tip after finding out about the mechanical bull, as the one not holding it would have to ride the bull. Ryan starts to stare dreamily at Stephanie again, before she slaps him. However, he thanks her for it.

Lord of the Ring Toss[]

Boomerang ryan

Stephanie uses the boomerang on her own partner…

Stephanie is angered that her and Ryan have only been first once, and she then accuses him of dragging their team down. Ryan reminds her that she hadn’t eaten any of the beans in the previous episode. The Haters have acquired a Boomerang. Stephanie does not like Ryan’s throwing, even if it was just his first try. After Ryan celebrates successfully tossing a ring, saying he acts like the whole world should celebrate whenever he does something right. Ryan calls Stephanie a “joy vampire”, and that he felt as if she sucks the joy out of everything. Stephanie is angered with Ryan’s driving again, and they angrily mock each other. Stephanie plans to use the boomerang on the next team that shows up.

Go back ring toss

…and neither are thrilled to do the challenge over again.

This starts another argument between them. Stephanie ends the argument by using the boomerang on Ryan. Ryan is angered at Stephanie for using the boomerang on them and therefore putting them at risk, but she simply tells him to watch how quickly “someone with skills” could do the challenge. Ryan is not very supportive of Stephanie’s efforts. Ryan threatens to sue Stephanie for half a million dollars if they went home that day. Stephanie accuses Ryan of living in the past when he’s still upset about her misusage of the boomerang. The Haters keep arguing when building the igloo. Ryan and Stephanie survive this round as it’s a non-elimination episode. The Haters admit that they still have feelings for one another, but are only being torn because of the heat of the competition. However, they argue once again as soon as they say this.

Got Venom[]

Yes yes yes stephanie

Ryan is not very interested in helping Stephanie.

In an interview, Stephanie calls the fact that she used her boomerang on her own team Ryan’s fault. Surprisingly, he agrees with her. This becomes a recurring theme now, with Ryan responding to everything with “Yes, Stephanie.” This makes her so irritated that she leaves. Ryan explains he’s figured out how to deal with Stephanie, by simply agreeing with everything she says. Stephanie takes credit for Ryan’s idea to try using a mango to get the venom from one of the Komodo dragons, much to his anger. Ryan watches with a humored expression as one of them chases Stephanie, even adding that he can’t imagine why it likes her. He’s also shown laughing at this too. Stephanie is angry at him for not helping bed again. Ryan does not help when Stephanie is surrounded by the same Komodo dragon from earlier, simply flipping through a magazine now. Angered, she takes matters into her own hands, much to Ryan’s horror. And she threatens Ryan to scoop some drool from the unconscious dragon’s mouth, or he’d be next. Ryan admits he isn’t afraid of Stephanie or her stick, that he didn’t need her to tell him what to do. Right as he says that, Stephanie appears with a stick, chasing him. Stephanie angrily shoves Ryan off the pile of carpets after they reach the second part of the challenge.

Dude Buggies[]

Stephyan

The Haters argue before the challenge.

Stephanie insists that Ryan is the assistant for the magic show challenge of the Either/Or, and she taunts him: saying that he’d better hope the dress can fit over his thick head. Stephanie laughs upon seeing Ryan in the dress, and she finds it funny because he actually looks good in it. Stephanie angrily tells Ryan to get in the cage, but his muscular build prevents him from entering, until Stephanie gives him a push.

A sentence I never thought the Haters would say

Stephanie denies looking at Ryan’s butt, before slamming the door on him.

She laughs after seeing his dress rip off, revealing his smiley face underwear. Ryan tells her not to look at his butt. Stephanie angrily tells him that he wishes she would look at his butt, and slams the door on him. But in an interview, Stephanie admits she indeed was looking. Ryan is disappointed to see he’d “messed up” the trick, since he was trying to keep the lion but make Stephanie disappear instead. The Haters stare dreamily at each other after finishing second.

El Bunny Supremo[]

Things are fine between Ryan and Stephanie now that they’ve made the top three again. Ryan asks Stephanie if she wants to make out. She declines, telling him to ask again when they’re in first place. Stephanie sits on Ryan’s lap during the bus ride, calling him slightly less disgusting than the chicken poop on the seats. Stephanie tells Ryan their roles, with her desiring to be the one eating the peppers. Ryan asks her to at least eat the hottest one. To this, she angrily glares at him, and he gets climbing quickly. Despite Ryan’s pleas for her to eat the middle pepper, she chooses the mildest one. Ryan is shocked and disappointed. Stephanie admits she’s only doing it because she still remembers how Ryan had dumped her on national television. Stephanie angrily yells at Ryan to hurry up jumping, even threatening to push him. Stephanie tries to prevent Ryan from slowing them down again by helping the Best Friends. Stephanie criticizes Ryan for taking too long to reach the Chill Zone, and she doesn’t appear very happy to tie for fourth with the Best Friends.

Ca-Noodling[]

Stephanie has become jealous of Ryan’s friendship with Carrie. After seeing Stephanie fails to noodle properly, Ryan happily shows her, and the Haters stare at each other for a moment before Stephanie quickly leaves. She admits that she isn’t over Ryan. However, she simply tells Ryan to keep his hands away from her. Ryan disagrees when Stephanie claims that getting on the first boat with Team Evil was a good idea, as the other Super Team had finished first.

How Deep Is Your Love[]

Ryan annoying steph

Ryan now gets on Stephanie’s nerves by once again agreeing with everything she says.

When Ryan says he doesn’t feel like the Ice Dancers are trustworthy, Stephanie insults him: saying he doesn’t think at all. Ryan agrees with her, much to her shock. After Stephanie walks away, Ryan explains that he learns this from his father. Stephanie punches Ryan as he tries waving at Carrie. He apologizes, saying that she must’ve felt uncomfortable seeing him try focusing on Carrie. As Ryan reads the Travel Tip, he purposefully blocks Stephanie from seeing it, leading to her demanding that he moved his “big, fat head” out of the way. He agreed with her about his head, making her walk away in anger. After seeing the Siberian Sasquatchanakwa, Stephanie teases Ryan about the idea of them being related. Stephanie is annoyed when Ryan does not choose to ram the best friends, criticizing him for not listening to her. Stephanie furiously asks Ryan why he’s talking to Carrie, but he simply shuts her down by agreeing not to talk to her again. Ryan does not put up a fight when Stephanie tells him to be the one who’s going to put on the harness. Stephanie is even more enraged now. And upon seeing Carrie talk to Ryan, Stephanie admits to being jealous again. Stephanie is angered that they’re not in first, as she accuses Ryan of flirting with Carrie instead of concentrating. In reaction to Sanders’s injury, Ryan thanks Stephanie for not dropping him down the hole like that. Stephanie demands that Ryan goes back to being her biggest nightmare, which shocks her. Stephanie wants Ryan to argue with her again, but first they make out for the first time in a while.

Darjeel With It[]

ShowTime

Ryan successfully motivates Stephanie.

Ryan tries to tell Stephanie to forget about the heat. As she struggles, Ryan reminds her of the time when Ryan wanted to quit the city marathon they were in last year, before she told him to take it one step at a time. The Haters work together. Stephanie tries to deny help from Ryan, which leads him to explain how one of their restaurant date experiences went awful because of Stephanie’s inability to accept help. Ryan continues to recap experiences he and Stephanie powered through together as a way to motivate her. This succeeds, and works majorly for them until their leaves are blown away. Ryan simply takes a bush and puts its leaves in Stephanie’s basket, allowing the Haters team to move on. As the Haters are on the train together, Ryan allows Stephanie to dry off with his shirt. She thanks him for this, and for everything he did earlier.

The Daters tell Don they’ve reconciled

Ryan and Stephanie are back together.

The Haters happily smile at each other after realizing they make each other strong. Stephanie realizes that she’s been so horrible to Ryan, but he admits he felt as if they’d both gotten carried away competing with each other. The Haters officially make up, becoming the Daters once more. They’re both happy to be back together, agreeing that if they go home it wouldn’t be a complete loss. The Daters are confident that they can win, before horrifyingly realizing that the train isn’t moving. As the Daters approach the Chill Zone, they make out before touching the Carpet of Completion, reminding Don that they’re the the Daters now, not the Haters. However, this results in their elimination. The Daters agree they were an amazing team, and that the Race had made them a stronger couple.
