Plot[]

The episode opens with each of the castmates sleeping in their bunk beds, when Geoff is woken up by a nightmare before being rudely interrupted by Chris.

TDA Geoff
Geoff
Aw, dude! It's so sad seeing Bridge gone this early in the game. It's like I can't do anything without her, dude. [sighs] What am I going to do without my Bridge?

After Geoff would get out of bed, the other castmates who are shown to be asleep, get rudely awakened by Chris.

TDA Beth
Beth
At first, I thought he was talking to the crew crew, not us. I was really hoping they'd replace Chris the creep with a nice host this time around! Is that mean? [gasps] Sorry!

TDA3TimeToPick

Trent and Gwen choosing their teammates in a schoolyard pick.

They are told that they'll have to learn how tough being on a production set really is, and that it's not all about red carpets and fame. Gwen states that she can handle it, since she once had a job at a petting zoo, cleaning up after the animals. Chris has Gwen and Trent pick their teams, since the prize for winning the previous challenge was being a team captain. They are both nervous, as neither wishes to get competitive and nasty towards each other, and feel they have learned enough from last season. The choosing starts with Gwen, who picks Duncan, so Trent would then chooses Lindsay.

TDA Trent
Trent
Duncan? I knew she would choose Duncan. But hey, it's a game. And that's all that matters.
TDA Gwen
Gwen
Man, hopefully Trent was fine with my choice. I know he will think it was the right thing to do since we are on opposite teams and it is the main focus off captains.

Gwen's next choice is her partner in crime Leshawna, and Trent chooses Tyler. After being reminded by Lindsay about him. Gwen then picks DJ, while Trent chooses Beth. Gwen, then determined to pick Cody, as he quickly celebrates. Trent then picks Justin as he'd walk behind Beth and wink at her, as she'd faint.

TDA Justin
Justin
Perfect, I'm on a disfunctional team with some people I can take action into. Perfect, but who will go first?

Gwen then picks Eva, as she'd run to to the back of the line. Trent undecidingly picks Noah, as he'd walk behind Justin as it cuts to him in the confessional.

TDA Owen
Owen
After being torn between Noah's conversation and voting out Justin himself, I've been stressing ever since! [sighs]

Gwen, not sure who to pick, is reminded by Leshawna to keep her enemies close, and tells Gwen to choose Heather, which she reluctantly does, while Heather is surprised about this act of Gwen.

TDA Heather
Heather
It's about time someone realised who's the most valuable player here. I mean, seriously, people.

After Heather's confessional, Trent then undecided for a few seconds, who then makes a decision to choose Owen on his team. Which he does, Owen celebrates about this, as Courtney then interrupts Gwen by claiming that she's a C.I.T. and that it should count for something, if nor that. Justin then hesistates Trent into picking Courtney, which makes her really angry about this, trying to make Chris switch teams as he denies. As walking to the back of the line. Owen would try talking to Courtney as she'd turn her back from him, being reminded not to talk to her. Gwen then picks Geoff as he'd sadly walk to the back of the line.

TDA Duncan
Duncan
Ever since Romeo's Juliet has flew off sky high, dude's just been a massive sucker ever since. And we can't have that. Otherwise, he'll be flying in the coop after her nest next.

Trent then picks Katie after thinking, reminding him about picking Sadie right after, Harold mentioning how he went to film camp, full trained as a junior cinematographer, with a thorough knowledge of lighting filters, film stock as Gwen annoyingly picks Harold. Leaving Trent to pick E-Scope, and leaving Gwen with Sadie, Once the teams are settled, Chris announces that Gwen's team will be known as the Screaming Gaffers, and Trent's team as the Killer Grips.

They are brought to a lot filled with studio equipment and a trailer. Chris informs them that their first challenge is moving all the equipment up a huge hill.

TDA Justin
Justin
Ah, Izzy! What a perfect choice. I can easily just convince her to act and purposley lose the challenge. That way, I can make everybody vote her out. Ah, smartest people always leave first. Then you're in the clear. [laughs]

Afterwards when the challenge had started, when Gwen is going up the hill, she nearly falls, but Duncan catches her. Trent, seeing this, concerned for Gwen makes sure she's okay, which she responds that she is as she and Trent both wish eachother good luck. Back at the base of the hill, it is down to the final item: the trailer. Tyler tries to pull the trailer, but fails. Trent asks Owen to help pull the trailer, convincing him that if he does, he'll get to eat at the catering station, which he claims is waiting at the top. They start up the hill, but Owen uses his belt buckle as a way to pull the trailer, causing his pants to fall down and slow their ascent. Gwen asks Geoff to pull the trailer, but he refuses sadly. After being convinced by Gwen telling him party is a state of mind, Geoff then goes back to being a party animal and pulling the trailer as he'd wave his hat in the air while the other Gaffers would cheer for him. But not fast enough, allowing the Killer Grips to reach the top first and win the first part of the challenge.

At the top of the hill, Chris tells them the second part of the challenge is to perform a scene for Chef, with the winning team being the one that makes him show the most emotion.

TDA Justin
Justin
This... is the perfect time to make Izzy do this act and keep my plans into my own hands!

The Killer Grips are given a story of an old woman who lived a full life and is reflecting on it, and the Screaming Gaffers are given a story of a thug who tries to go straight, but can't fight the allure of the streets. Heather interrupts Chris and reminds him that they haven't eaten in eight hours and that he is legally obligated by union rules to give them a meal break, to which Chris says that he actually is a part of the union.

TDA Heather
Heather
I am hereby forming local one of United Workers Against Chris. Who's with me? Everybody?
Izzy scares Trent

Izzy frightens Trent with her imitation of her Scottish grandmother.

Then, the teams set up: Beth tries to adjust the stage lighting; Owen tries to adjust Izzy's audio, whom he angers to the point of yelling into the microphone; Duncan complains that his lines are too cheesy, to which Gwen convinces him to act by telling him that he has the traits of a gangster. On the grips team, Noah then reminds Owen about Justin and how big of a threat he is to possibly cost E-Scope on her game. Later, Heather gets tangled in a light cable, so Harold gently appears to free her.

TDA Harold
Harold
I've been working on my courting skills. Yep, I've mastered girl whispering.
TDA Heather
Heather
As annoying as hanging around Harold would be, he'll make an easy-to-persuade alliance member, and right now, m'lady needs all the help she can get.

At the same time, when putting on Duncan's make-up, Chef approaches DJ and offers to help him man up if DJ shares the prize money with him. Chef tells DJ that he doesn't have a choice, despite his reluctance. At the final hour of make-up and adjusting the lighting as Justin tells E-Scope not to mess the challenge up, and that he'd be very sad if she'd mess up the challenge.

TD Chef
Chef Hatchet
I've gotta admit. I see a bit of myself in DJ. But I had to develop the macho in myself without somebody like me helping. This is gonna be fun.
TDA Izzy
E-Scope
Okay, I obviously know in a frogs leap that Justin was messin' with me! Like, come on! Who can't see through that?

TDA029 222 T1

Chef becomes emotional and starts to shed tears after seeing Duncan's performance.

Once the filming starts, Chef had unintentionally mixed up the scripts, making Duncan an old grandfather reflecting on his past in a mobster setting and Izzy a gangster grandmother attempting to go straight. Due to his alliance with DJ, Chef lets the Screaming Gaffers win by crying when Duncan performs. DJ mocks Chef for crying, though Chef claims even tough guys cry, and reminds him who is judging the challenge, which shuts DJ up. While the Gaffers are celebrating their victory, Gwen and Trent make amends for their earlier competitiveness.

Whew! I feel so alive! I'm the Izzy "E-Scope"! I could kick backsides on reality programs! I can tie my ankles together and do backflips down an escalator! Wanna see?! ... Well then, we'll have to go someplace with an up escalator. Yeah, when Hollywood starts calling, E-Scope will have a lot of things on the special skills portion of her resume. I just made myself invisible! Can we stop for banana splits and milkshakes and cheese? Ooh ooh ooh! And let's go some place with an up escalator, you know what I mean?! Whoo!

Trivia[]

General[]

  • With Izzy's elimination, this marks the first of only two times in the whole season that there are two back-to-back elimination episodes, as Bridgette and Geoff were eliminated in the previous episode.
  • The cast have switched bunks since they originally chose them in the first episode. DJ now shares a bunk with Owen; Duncan and Justin are now in separate bunks; Harold is shown alone; Trent's sleeping location is not revealed although it is likely that he is sharing with either Duncan or Justin. Meanwhile, Leshawna is now, surprisingly, sharing a bunk with Heather; Lindsay is bunking above Gwen; Beth and E-Scope have a bunk to themselves.
  • The two workers were the Camp TV designs of DJ and Cody.
  • Tyler's first design is seen as one of the guards who carries E-Scope to the Lame-o-sine.
  • This episode reveals for the first time that the Gilded Chris Awards are actually chocolate statuettes covered in gold foil.
  • Leshawna convinces Gwen to pick Heather by reciting her line of "Keep your friends close and your enemies closer."
    • Interestingly, Heather used that same saying during the first team challenge in Total Drama Island, when she faked an apology to Leshawna.
  • Based on Izzy's performance as her great-grandmother Mavis, she is apparently of Scottish descent. Her being a natural redhead further supports this theory.
  • Like in the previous episode, Chris narrows the eliminations down to three cast members who may be eliminated, as opposed to two, which is the norm in the previous season.

Continuity[]

  • This episode marks the second out of three times in which E-Scope becomes the first girl voted off from her team.
  • This is the first post-Total Drama Island episode in which not every castmate still competing has an individual speaking role, as Justin didn't speak,
  • When Duncan is sleeping, he folds his fingers in the sign of the horns. This is the second time it is shown that he does this, with the first time being "The Sucky Outdoors."
  • In "Celebrity Manhunt's Total Drama Action Reunion Special," E-Scope is in the same outfit and on the same stage as she was in this episode when she cursed on set.

References[]

  • This episode's title references the 1967 movie, Riot on Sunset Strip. It may also be a pun on the saying, "Quiet on Set."
  • When Chef tells DJ he'll help him "man up" and tells him he's making him an offer he won't let him refuse, this is a reference to Vito Corleone's famous line from the 1972 crime film, The Godfather.

Goofs[]

  • Around the beginning of this episode, when the girls are shown sleeping, one can clearly see Heather's wig on the side of her bed, even though, it was lost in the previous episode.
  • When Chris is saying the cast is late, he has a watch, but when he gets in front of the trailer, he is not wearing a watch.
  • When the Screaming Gaffers react to the noises caused by the insulted interns, DJ is missing.
  • When Chef is asked to give the teams their envelopes he has three, but there are only two teams.
    ChefNoEmotion

Chef has a full set of teeth instead of a gap.

  • When Chef growls, he has a full set of teeth, when normally, he has a gap.
  • When Lindsay says that E-Scope doesn’t look like herself, she sounds like Beth when she says it.
  • At the Awards Ceremony, when zoomed in on the new voting devices, Bridgette, Geoff, and most of the Gaffers' faces are seen. This is a re-used animation from the previous episode.
    • Also, when the voting devices are shown, Lindsay's face is displayed, yet she has no hair. She only has her bandanna. Leshawna is also missing her ponytail.
  • When the bottom three (Lindsay, Justin, and E-Scope) are shown, Justin is to the left of Lindsay, who is in the middle, with Izzy on the right. When Izzy is announced as the loser, Lindsay and Justin both look to the right. However, Lindsay is actually sitting on Izzy's right. This might be due to the split-screen effect, since both Lindsay and Justin are displayed at the left.
